I have been trying to decide what to work on for my Happiness in January. The house? The blogs and stores? Myself? There are so many things I want to do but I know there is no way that I am going to get them all done in the first month. And that if I tried I would be even more burned out than I am right now. I think the best way for me to approach this year is to give myself 3 action items/ goals a month and one organizational task. If I am honest with myself, that is about as much change as I can handle in a month. Later in the year I might be able to handle more action items who knows? So I am going to mirror what Gretchen worked on in her first month – Vitality. She had 5 action items that she worked on that lead to her having increased energy, and a greater level of happiness overall. These are mine.
My Goals for January:
- Set a sleep schedule.
- Exercise 3 times a week
- Tackle 3 nagging tasks
My Organizational Task for January:
- Organize my bedroom (including my closet and bathroom)
I think the hardest of my three goals for the month is going to be setting and staying on a sleep schedule. I have a hard time falling and staying asleep thanks to my medical conditions, and it is made so much worse by Hubby’s snoring. I am not talking about a soft snuffling snore. He snores like an asthmatic bear trying to hibernate in a wind tunnel. When he really gets going he shakes the entire bed. There are many nights I give up and move to the couch. I have tried 3 different pairs of noise canceling headphones – they don’t work. I can’t take sleeping pills because I end up sleeping for 14-18 hours without moving. He has tried 3 different snoring aids and they don’t work. He needs to go get a CPAP machine to help him sleep (both his parents have to have one) but he refuses to sleep like Darth Vader. My goal is to set my bedtime at 10 pm, and my alarm for 6 am. That gives me 8 hours in the bed where hopefully I will sleep for at least 6 of them. If you have any folk remedies for snoring leave me a comment below!
As far as exercising goes I have a membership to my local YMCA. I just hate going. They opened a brand new, multi-million dollar building this year. It has a pool, work out areas, child care, and classes. It is a beautiful building. The hard part is it is downtown with little parking, the parking garage is just opening a year later and doesn’t have enough parking allocated for the gym, so parking and getting inside is a pain in the butt. Once I actually get inside I have to wait for a treadmill. Who in their right mind thought 10 treadmills was going to be enough? In the old building they had at least 30 treadmills – and they were always full. So why they would go down to just 10 I have no clue. There is plenty of weird gym equipment that no one uses that they could move out of the way for more treadmills but nope. Instead there is a line of people standing there waiting for a treadmill.
I have also bought myself a copy of the BodyBoss workout book. When I signed up I thought it would be more interactive on line, maybe have an app that I could use to motivate myself. But it is a book with a different workout that you do by yourself 3 times a week. You start on a page of warm up stretches, flip to that day’s routine, then flip to a page of cool down stretches. I am not sure how it is going to work out but I am going to give it a try. I saw a picture of myself at Christmas and it was not flattering. I had watched Pitch Perfect 2 right before going through the photos and I decided I look like Amy (Rebel Wilson) from the movie. I know rationally I am never going to be the same size I was in high school (a 102 pound size 2), I am shooting for loosing 40 pounds this year. That will get me down to where I can see my knees I hope!
The Nagging Tasks and Organizing my bedroom are going to be the easier of the tasks. I have started making a list of everything I need to get done but have been putting off. Some of it I have been putting off far longer than I am comfortable admitting, some of them are just annoying things that I have been hoping Hubby would handle for me. I am listing everything as it comes to mind so I can have the satisfaction of crossing it off my list. My bedroom isn’t going to be so hard to do. Mainly I need to clean out my closet and clean up the knick-knacks I have on all the dresser tops. My bathroom is going to be harder I have all kinds of bottles and things shoved in every drawer and cabinet that I need to go through. But I know that i am going to feel so much happier going in there when I finally get that under control.
